Thrive by Dan Buettner
If you’ve been with me very long, you’ve likely heard me talk about my love for and interest in the Blue Zones, areas around the world where people live long healthy lives at significantly higher rates than other places. As much as I am fascinated by the study of these places, partly I am in love with the chatty and warm Dan Buettner who is the head, and the face and mouthpiece, for disseminating much of the information about these areas, and you can sign me up to read pretty much anything he writes. He strikes the perfect chord between science, data, and warmth, and I love all he has to say.
Stepping outside the Blue Zones, Dan set off to research happiness, and to visit some of the happiest places around the world, and see if he could uncover some of their secrets.
“As we explore each pocket where people are thriving in different ways, we’ll see how culture, geography, and government policies combine to stack the deck in favor of happiness...What can the world’s happiest people’s tell us about what makes a difference in their lives?”
His journey, anecdotes, and science are engaging and informative. I finished this book feeling positive, empowered, uplifted ,and motivated.
“There’s a lesson here for you: you can shape your own environment to live better and longer too.”
