Murder In Belgravia by Lynn Brittney
The first in a new series from Brittney, this story takes the reader to WWi London, where Inspector Beech has been asked to investigate a murder, where apparently a woman stabbed her husband with a pair of sewing scissors. However, she refuses to speak to a male investigator, or even to an unmarried or non-aristocratic female. This case sparks an idea in Beech, and he receives permission to form a unique special team, to which he recruits a woman physician, a female lawyer (who also was his former love interest), a retired inspector, and a strong, bright young beat cop. Together, this motley crew is able to navigate the many aspects of the case, and finally get to the bottom of what really happened, although most of them, including the accused, are in perilous danger at one point or another, and the culprit turns out to be more dangerous than they ever expected at the outset.
Brittney has crafted a fantastic story, and I absolutely loved the team approach to solving the murder, which is an uncommon treat in the genre. I will definitely be back for more, and I can't wait to get to know this sleuthing team a little more and see what their next adventure will be!
