Chasing Slow by Erin Loechner
Follow Erin on her personal journey to slow down and enjoy life. Working to the bone in Southern California to try to afford all the things she "should" want in life, Erin finds herself wanting something different. Her husband has a terminal brain tumor, and she doesn't know how much time she has with him, and realizes one day that she's wasting the time she does have, both of themselves working to the bone to afford their lifestyle. They decide to give it all up, to consciously slow down, and move back to the midwest, where Erin grew up. After moving home, and thinking they have this slow life thing all figured out, Erin's blog is noticed on the internet by HGTV and she is offered the opportunity to have a show. She takes it, and after a short time, again realizes that her life has become a whirlwind, and she wants to slow it back down. America isn't made for those who want to slow down and savor life, and Erin learns over and over in this book that if that is what you want, you have to make the decision over and over, and stick to it, but it brings amazing blessings of health and well-being, of memories and relationships to your life. One of the most perspective-changing books I've ever read, this is a gem, and helped nudge me on the path I was tentatively eyeing of slowing down my own pace of living, and I haven't regretted following in Erin's footsteps one bit.
