Peace Like a River

Peace Like a River by Leif Enger

Sometimes a book catches you up and takes your breath away- this is one of those beautiful books. Eleven-year old Reuben and his younger sister Swede love stories of the wild west. When their older brother kills a man who was trying to harm his girlfriend, then goes on the lam, Reuben and Swede romanticize their brother's hiding in the Badlands like a hero in an old western. Beautifully written and fast moving, you hope along with Reuben that his outlaw brother can escape the feds and remain shrouded in spine-tingling mystery. Enger's prose is simply a joy to read and the plot intriguing- this book is among my personal favorites of all time.
