Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Oh, Jane Eyre- my favorite book! Jane is orphaned in childhood and sent to live with unkind relatives, who ultimately punt her off to a boarding school with terrible living conditions. After years spent at the school, Jane graduates and takes a position as a governess to the ward of a handsome, taciturn bachelor, Mr. Rochester. Eventually she breaks through his shell, and he through hers, and they fall in love. At their wedding, though, Jane discovers he harbors a terrible secret in his attic- one that sends them both off on the most difficult period of their lives yet. Just when all hope seems lost, a beautiful reconciliation occurs, and Jane and Mr. Rochester prove that love conquers all. One of the first romance novels ever published, it is impossible not to get swept up in the gorgeous language, the mysterious scenery of the moors of England, and the story of deep, true love that overcomes every adversity.
